My name is Oda. I sustained a complete c6 spinal cord injury on New Year’s Eve 1999 as a result of a car accident with a drunk driver.
Throughout the years, I've been able to accept and embrace my disability and advocate for a more accessible world. Thankfully, I've been able to use my lived experience as part of my job at Spinal Cord Injury Ontario. I'm an Information & Resource Specialist; In my role I provide, catalogue, and share information and resources & handle equipment donations. I'm also a Video Content Developer for CortreeTV where I make video content relating to my experiences as a wheelchair user.
I like to give back and be involved in the community.
I’m a board member of StopGap — a non-profit organization that closes the gap of what is and is not “accessible” by providing small ramps to allow access to certain businesses that would not be accessible otherwise. Some of my favourite places in the city have StopGap ramps, meaning I wouldn’t be able to access them otherwise. So I wanted to be involved in making change business by business.
I’m also a pool member on the board of the TTC ACAT (Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit). I use TTC transit all the time.
In my spare time I enjoy jazz and blues music, exploring the city, and creating comics for my fast-growing instagram audience.
